Decent sized Natwest, busy at weekends though.

24 Nicholas St, Chester CH1 2AU, UK – 0871 811 1881

I've used them for my business for 4yrs, i think they are great! They are clear about there charges when high street banks seem to hide there charges and seem to add more charges when your not expecting them. There prepaid cards are excellent, you can top them up on the go and reduce the chance of fraud. Their basic but i like the honesty in the way they do business.

Amazing customer service!

Building Societies

62 Foregate St, Chester CH1 1HT, UK – 0800 554 0718

When we go over to Chester very often need to get statements etc, the staff are always so helpful and friendly, myself and my wife have been with Nationwide for a lot of years my wife since she was born, they are first class with no hesitation of fully recommending them great building society

I have banked here for over thirty years and only have good things to say about the place. Although members of staff have come and gone it has always had a nice friendly atmosphere. If you fancy a change of bank you could do a lot worse than move here! (",)

The Co-operative Bank - Chester

54-56, Northgate St, Chester CH1 2HT, UK

Always found the staff helpful and nice - only gripe is not open on Sat

Rang the branch and they put the phone down three times before they answered it. However when they did answer it they couldn't be more helpful. I would say the woman on the phone went above and beyond what i would expect from even the best banks. I think i'll stay with them :-)

3 Frodsham St, Chester CH1 3JJ, UK – 01244 586330

Dental Surgeries

Bupa Dental Care Chester

4 Park St, Chester CH1 1RN, UK – 01244 321378

I have been using this practice for many years now and have had a number of different dentists. The staff have always been very friendly, polite, and helpful. I have had no issues to date and will continue to utilise their services.

Kiran Jumbu has performed a magnificent job on my new cantilever bridge. She is always professional and cheerful.

White House Dental Practice

55 Chester Rd, Huntington, Chester CH3 6BS, UK – 01244 311716

Emergency appointment today for an abscess. The tooth was so badly damaged I could either take antibiotics or have it removed. My choice, I wanted it gone. Trust me to be awkward. It took 1.5 hours to remove the tooth as it had previously broken in half and one part had fused to the bone. I was happy with this as they could easily have referred me for surgery but insisted it was coming out! Very attentive, made sure I was as comfortable as possible throughout and I think the majority of staff there worked through their lunch! On my 1 experience I would highly recommend the practice. Very homely feel too. The dental/reception staff were happy to listen to me ramble on and everyone did a fantastic job! Thank you all for today!

I had an emergency appointment for severe tooth pain, and whilst this isn't my regular dentist, they made me feel right at home. The staff were very kind and helpful, and everything was explained to me in detail which helped me to feel more calm about the experience. I would definitely recommend this dentist to anyone I know.

Chester Dental Clinic

Belmont House, 2 Volunteer Street, Chester CH1 1RG, UK – 01244 350858

Great dentist and I find it very convenient that they open Saturday mornings. I recentky needed an emergency appointment and staff went above and beyond to fit me in. Very helpful and friendly reception staff too.

I went to another dentist first. They filled my tooth three times and each time the filling fell out. In the end I gave up and came here where I say Lucas. Very professional service all round. The problem was that the cavity still had decay in it. It needed to be drilled a bit more, dressed and a temporary filling put in. A few months later I had the temporary filling out and a new one put in. A year later and all is going well. Much better than my experience at a different dental practice

Nuffield Health Chester, The Grosvenor Hospital

The Grosvenor Hospital, Wrexham Rd, Chester CH4 7QP, UK – 01244 680444

For the most part it's very good. But in 2007 unfortunately after major surgery I got the night nurse from hell...I did report this but no one stepped forward..of course.. I would not stay overnight there again after being verbally bullied for ringing the bell three times. .

I would like to give this hospital 5 stars and full credit, I had an initial appointment with mr temple ( consultant ) who was a very nice man and assured me that my surgery is common and I would be fine, i had surgery that was (tonsillectomy) I'm 34 so I was abit worried as you hear all the story's about adults tonsillectomy is much worser then children's, from the first visit to leaving the hospital after surgery I was fully satisfied with the staff, facilities, consultant, etc and I would definitely go back in the future if necessary.

Parish Church of Saint John the Baptist Chester

Vicar's Ln, Chester CH1 1SN, UK – 01244 403634

Although we didn't get to go inside, it was sunday at 12 maybe they were in service. I think the grounds were more than amazing, the ruins of the former parts of the church formed when chester was known as mercia were stunning I am so glad we found them!

I was a tour guide at St. John the Baptist last year. I miss this place a lot, and fondly remember the time I spent here. I loved worshiping the Lord at the Evensong service. A lovely group of people volunteering too. Fr. David and Rev. George are fantastic.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Shotwick

Chef's Table

4 Music Hall Passage, Chester CH1 2EU, UK – 01244 403040

Very good menu, attentive service. Were treated to a couple of amuse-bouche, which was nice. Downside was getting a drink; little bar was very busy so took ages to get our drinks. It was also really hot in there (no a/c or fans etc). That said. It was really good food, with friendly staff. Note to staff though: don't lean on and touch your customers. I'm a 40 year old man. I'm wise to 20-something waitresses vying for a bigger tip. I say this jovially & constructively :)

Outstanding in my opinion and my family agrees. A very intimate venue that is wonderfully relaxed. The menu is wonderful with a range of exciting combinations of foods that work brilliantly together and are perfectly prepared. I was surprised how excellent the food was here and in my experience, it compares favourably with some of the best London restaurants. Make sure you book.

Upstairs At The Grill

70 Watergate St, Chester CH1 2LA, UK – 01244 344883

Where to begin? The food is amazing! It's a little higher priced than your bargain basement food, but it's worth every penny. Staff are awesome, talking you through the menu and answering any questions you have. Even adding a bit of personality to your experience if you're lucky enough to share interests with your waiting staff. Couldn't recommend more, go here ASAP!

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Other steak establishments in Chester could learn a thing, or many, from this restaurant. Service - Fabulous, Food - Fabulous, Atmosphere - Fabulous. Amazingly looked after from start to finish, a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday. Definitely will visit again.

Opera Grill

3 Pepper St, Chester CH1 1DF, UK – 01244 343888

Exceptional food in an attractive setting in the centre of Chester. The Opera Grill, even without the Gospel singers who only appear on Sundays, is a real gastronomic treat. Each member of our party felt their choice of meal was best but all enjoyed 'tastes' from other plates too! Only problem was parking so allow plenty of time. Highly recommended!

Managed to grab a last minute table on the terrace. I ordered off the lunch menu and my husband off the main menu. The food was absolutely lovely. The oysters and scallops were divine (husbands order) as was the entire meal. Wait staff were wonderfully attentive. Definitely returning soon.

Nursery and Preschools

Huntington Under 5's Preschool

Huntington Village Hall, Butterbache Rd, Huntington, Chester CH3 6DB, UK – 07503 779834

Huntington Under Fives is the best preschool we've ever used - I only wish we'd known about them sooner! My child loves every single staff member and we are so sad that we need to leave to attend school. HU5 is a caring, friendly setting, and the kind staff are always ready to provide comfort and learning. I am amazed at how much my child has learnt at this preschool. Management is open and approachable, and flexible to suit every child's needs. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

Little Learners Nursery

Inside Total fitness, 53 Liverpool Rd, Chester CH2 1AQ, UK – 01244 421564

My baby boy loves the nursery and staff, staff are soo friendly and make you as a parent know your child is being rightly cared for and go the extra mile for them. I can chat to them about anything (example-my boys food concerns) And they always put me at ease. He has been going the nursery since january now and he really enjoys it. Currently in the babies room but they are easing him in doing visits to the next class and he is now ready to be moved on the 18th 😊 Thankyou girls 👍 Thumbs up from me and kian xx

Cherry Grove Primary School

Great school with hard working staff. A wonderful personallity to the place where children of all backgrounds thrive.

This is a school that has really turned itself around. The staff are supportive and helpful. There are numerous after school clubs for the children, as well as onsite before and after school care. Don't discount Cherry Grove because of past reputation. They have changed drastically.

Public & Preparatory Schools

The Firs School

45 Newton Ln, Chester CH2 2HJ, UK – 01244 322443

The Firs is a superb primary school with a wonderful atmosphere and caring staff. My daughter is extremely happy here, growing in confidence and excelling in all subjects. Not only am I really happy with The Firs for their academic achievements they also provide a fantastic range of sporting, choir and arts opportunities as well as a lots of interesting after school clubs. There is a great parent community and family feel to the school which positively enhances my daughters education. A balanced primary school with fantastic results. Highly recommend.

I have 3 very different children at The Firs and all are happy and content. The school stretches their learning and allows the academically able to learn way ahead of their tender age, whilst the school also amply supports those for whom learning doesn't come so easily. Pastoral and spiritual support at the school is second to none and all children, parents and staff know each other. Children are polite, articulate and confident whilst having respect for themselves and others. There are huge array of after school clubs accommodating all ages and tastes. I would not hesitate to recommend the school to any potential parent. In my sons words 'it's EPIC'!!!
